THE CROW’S
NEST-----------------MARCH
10, 2006
There
are sure signs of spring
around town---streets
getting almost impassable
due to ruts in the ice,
potholes where pavement
shows through, icicles
dripping off eaves and a
smile on most everyone’s
face as they go to get the
mail. Ah yes, even though
there is lots and lots of
snow (truthfully, I can
almost watch it sink from
the warmth of the sun);
everyone knows that the
fresh smell of spring is
just around the corner.
Basketball is over for the
year. The Valley-Edinburg
Titans were eliminated in
the first round of the
Regional in a heartbreaker
of a game to the
Hatton-Northwood Thunder
62-60. The guys had a good
year and their fans are very
proud of them.
We spent last weekend in
Minot at the Girls State
Tournament. The
Adams-Edmore Prowlers took 7th
place. Sara Sorbo made the
All State team.
Adams-Edmore was the
smallest school represented
there, but they were noted
as the loudest and had the
most fans in attendance.
They were given the “Spirit
Award”. Every one of the
teams represented at state
were absolute winners. The
Midway-Minto Mustangs took 2nd
place in the tournament so
this part of the valley was
well represented.
You will notice that just
about all the pictures
posted now relate to the
Edinburg students and their
Science Projects. 15
students participated in the
Northeast Regional Science
and Engineering Fair at UND
in Grand Forks last
Wednesday. Loretta Monson
is their mentor and
teacher. She, along with
the students spend hours and
hours and hours preparing
their projects for this
event. Their hard work
shows as 12 of the students
will move on to state
competition. Loretta even
organized a local science
fair so the students could
get more comfortable in
their presentations making
them to folks they know!
The Grand Forks Herald noted
that there were many entries
from the smaller schools,
Edinburg, Park River, Hoople,
Minto, etc. ; but that Grand
Forks only had 1 entry.
Personally, I think this is
because of the dedication of
our local science teachers
who spend so much time and
energy making science a
class students want to
participate in. Loretta, I
know the hours you have
spent and give you great
kudos for all you do. Thank
you Mrs. Monson!
Bernice Flanagan is in the
hospital with what may be a
very bad case of the flu.
She was admitted yesterday.
I hope you are soon feeling
much better Bernice. We
need you to polka at our St
Patrick’s Day party next
weekend. Ada Lou Samdahl
now makes her home at the
Lutheran Sunset Home in
Grafton. Ada Lou is such a
sweetheart and I know she
loves to have company. The
changes in the landscape of
small towns are SO
noticeable whenever someone
moves.
I went through all my garden
seeds and the seed catalogs
so all is ready for planting
the onions, peas, radishes
and lettuce as soon as the
snow melts. Little Jase
Crockett in Fargo was so
excited as he told his mom
he could see grass in his
yard. I think we all get
excited.
We’re off to the last
hockey games at UND this
weekend. This is a best 2
out of 3 against Mankato
State. Of course, a big
snowstorm is predicted for
tomorrow. The snow watch is
from South Dakota through
North Dakota and into
Minnesota. Sounds like a
fun weekend. Talk with you
later.
