THE CROW’S
NEST---------------------June
6, 2006
Time is well spent at 6 AM
walking the streets of
Edinburg. There is
something so peaceful and
serene at that time of the
morning. This morning the
smell of smouldering
haystacks wafted into town.
I listened to Harold
Einerson’s cows bellowing
their morning songs and
watched the killdeers hop
and fly low to the ground by
TJ and Katie Halls home. I
felt like I needed to record
these events in slow motion
so I wouldn’t forget them.
My eyes actually started to
well up thinking how
terrific it is to have
retired back in Edinburg.
We all are very fortunate to
live in such a wonderful and
valuable town as
Edinburg---wonderful because
it is home and valuable
because everyone cares.
What more could anyone want?
Congratulations to all the
area graduates. Graduation
is such a fun but hectic
time. I know we really
enjoyed all the open
houses. I hope the
graduates will be able to
relax a little before
starting a new chapter in
their lives.
The Memorial Day program was
once again held at Odalen.
I dare guess this could be
close to 80 consecutive
years that it has been
held. It was a special
program as Pastor Gordon
Berntson was the speaker.
He has spoken at the program
a couple of other times and
always brings such an
inspirational and patriotic
message. He stated he was
now 80 years old and
remembers as a child going
to the Memorial Day programs
at Odalen. This year the
meal following the program
was held at the Community
Center in Edinburg. That
was a great move!! People
sat around for a long time
visiting.
The cement has been cut
around the light poles on
Main Street in readiness for
OtterTail to remove them. I
know I write about the
lights so often, but I am so
excited over the prospect of
the new decorative ones
being installed next month.
It is hard to imagine, but
to think there will be 10
new streetlights when our
goal was 6 lights when we
started this endeavor. It
just goes to show the
generosity of the community
plus the generosity of
wonderful people who grew up
in Edinburg but now reside
elsewhere. I can never
thank you enough for your
wonderful support.
We are “gearing up” for next
summer’s 125th
Anniversary Party.
Interested citizens have met
a few times to get things
rolling. We are having an
Edinburg party on June 20th
to benefit the start up
costs of the celebration.
We plan on serving grilled
brats and hot dogs, various
salads and drinks. I hope
everyone comes for a night
of fun and food.
Congratulations to Bonnie
Windingland and Lyle
Amundrud. They are being
united in marriage this
Saturday at Trinity.
Everyone is so happy and
thrilled for the two of
them. Also congratulations
to David Hilde and Julie
Flaten on the birth of their
son, Harley David Clifford
Hilde. David showed me
pictures right after the
baby was born. He sure was
excited!
Our thoughts and prayers are
with Carol and John Bjornson
on the death of Carol’s
brother who lived in
Colorado. Also, we are
thinking so much about Norma
Gire. She fell early last
Sunday morning and broke her
hip. She had surgery and
they put a pin in. Norma is
at Altru in Grand Forks.
Mary Langerud is having
shoulder surgery tomorrow so
also remember her. No
season of the year is free
from heartache.
I hope everyone is having a
wonderful summer and doing
all the fun things you dream
about. Have a great day.
Talk later.
