Don’t you love “late
spring”? I still get
excited when I see all the
green around town. The
older I get the longer
winter seems to be. I enjoy
having windows open and
being able to listen to all
the activity in town----and
we have lots of that on the
south end of Edinburg.
Jarrod and Jessica Ellingson
are having their home
resided and new windows put
in. They also just finished
shingling. Arnold Bjerke is
busy erecting a new workshop
in his yard. I understand
he will put all his
wood-working equipment in
it. It has been fun
listening to the “beep-beep”
of Harold Flom’s bobcat as
he leveled sand in the forms
preparing the area for the
slab of cement to be
poured. All these “noises”
keep me aware of this
wonderful season. Harold
and Chuck also spent today
filling some of the bigger
potholes on the streets of
Edinburg. Will do the rest
later. Shucks, it was fun
trying to dodge those
holes. No, glad to have
them fixed.
This has also been an
emotional week for me. We
emptied the place that was
“my childhood home” for 56
of my 60 years. It was
hard, but something that
needed to be done. Each box
that left the house held a
treasure and a memory of
childhood. I am sure
everyone has fond memories
of life in the past.
Remembering the past is
wonderful, but it is also
wonderful to embrace the now
and the future. My cousin,
Keith Sorbo of Ogden, Utah
put it best after going out
to the farm. He said, “It
is not a house that made the
home, but the people who
lived in it”. Mother is
happy living in Edinburg and
we are anxious for someone
else to enjoy the beautiful
landscape of “the farm”.
I am sure everyone has
watched all the coverage of
the death of our 40th
President, Ronald Reagan.
What a man and what a love
story of Nancy and him. Our
TIME magazine came today so
I am anxious to read this
commemorative issue. We
have our flag at half staff
in honor and respect of
President Reagan. I will
watch the state funeral on
Friday.
We had the Primary
Election in town today. 74
people came to cast their
vote. The state law
requires the election board
to ask for identification of
each voter. Lois Otto and I
were just a tad nervous
about this requirement as we
know everyone who
comes to vote and felt
uncomfortable having to ask
to see their driver’s
license. I must say
everyone was SO gracious
about complying with our
request. Thank you for
making our job much easier.
Also, a big thank you to
LeRoy Pederson for getting
us a noon meal from Norby’s
Diner.
Well, there isn’t a city
crisis to report as there
was a few weeks ago with
Louise Pederson and Nancy
Johnson over car colors;
but, we have had a minor
crisis in our household.
Our credit card company sent
us new credit cards
yesterday. Guess what I
did? I signed Chuck’s card
and he signed mine!!! What
a dilemma. It is going to
be hard to have to write a
check or pay cash until we
get new ones. And----think
of all the frequent flyer
miles we are losing!!! Let
you in on a little secret.
Ruth and Greg did the same
thing. Do you think it is a
“Monson Flaw”?? Anyway, we
will try to get by until
they are replaced.
Congratulations to Shauna
and Dennis Erickson on the
birth of their daughter
Cassie. We are always
thrilled to hear about a new
birth in our community.
Again, thanks for all the
kind remarks about the
website. Please let one of
the contacts know if there
is something special you
would like to have
included. I thank brother
Dave for all the pictures he
supplies for the website. I
think he is “joined at the
hip” with his digital
camera. Have a great day
and will talk to you again
soon.
