THE CROW’S
NEST------------September
19, 2004
Leaves
are turning color in the
coulees and shelterbelts.
The smell of autumn is in
the air---only trouble is it
is 90 degrees outside with
lots and lots of wind. We
have only had 4 days of
temperatures in the 90’s.
Two of those days have been
in September. Talk about
this being a “funny” summer.
Edinburg is in “high gear”
with harvest. Long lines of
trucks sit at the elevator
ready to be weighed and
unloaded. I visited with
Steve Langerud and he said
the wheat crop really looks
good. That is so nice to
hear. Hall’s are busy
hauling in truckloads of
red, red potatoes. They
sure look beautiful. There
is nothing better than new
potatoes. Harvest time is
truly a wonderful time of
the year.
Deer season has begun. Big
congratulations to Colton
Evenson. He just got his
first deer. What a thrill
it must be for him!
O yes, we have a newly
formed group in Edinburg.
They call themselves the
“Classy Divas”. They are
part of the National “Red
Hat Society”. I know the
Red Hat ladies always seem
to have a good time. I hope
to get a picture of them the
next time they get dressed
up for an event. I will
post it on the website.
I AM SO ENVIOUS. Rosemary
Denault and Marianne
Windingland leave Wednesday
for Germany. They will
visit Rosie’s daughter,
Alica and her husband in
Kaiserslautern. What a
perfect time of the year to
go. This is grape harvest
time in that area of Germany
so I know there will be
festivals all the time to
attend. I understand they
also will visit Oktoberfest
in Munich. What fun that
will be. Not only do I ask
you to have a schnitzel for
me, but at a wine fest have
a glass of wine and a piece
of zweiblekuchen (onion
cake) for me also.
Vera Brandvold and her
sister Verna, also are
flying across the pond for
sightseeing. They are going
to England, Scotland and
France. Edinburgh, Scotland is my most favorite
city in the world so I will
really be thinking about
them while they are enjoying
themselves.
I need not complain. Today
is our 40th
Wedding Anniversary. It has
been 40 wonderful years of
much happiness and
adventure. The only
complaint is that time has
just flown by. Seems just
yesterday that Ruthie was my
bridesmaid all dressed in
orange with a headpiece of
silk covered cardboard.
Pretty fancy!!!
I will write again later.
Have a wonderful day.
