THE CROW’S
NEST-----------------October
31, 2006
I’ve discovered something
highly personal besides my
“thoughts", my “toothbrush”
and my “Social Security
Number”------it is my
I-Pod!! I can listen to
Travis Tritt sing “Here’s a
Quarter Call Someone Who
Cares" one minute and the
next minute I am listening
to the Gaither Vocal Band
sing “Amazing Grace”! It is
wonderful to be able to pick
and choose exactly the songs
I like and down load them
without having to listen to
a whole CD. I can have the
music as loud as I want
without someone telling me
to “turn it down”! I LOVE
IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE
IT!!!!! One of my grandsons
in Kansas said I should
really have one. Houston,
you are SO smart!
It is Halloween and little
ghosts and goblins are out
and about the town in icy
cold weather. We had snow
yesterday so it is not easy
for the kids to maneuver
around.
We were in Grand Forks when
the snow started falling.
The temperatures were just
right so the roads were
slippery coming home. It
sure is a good reminder of
what is to come. Last night
the wind howled and the snow
blew across the church
yard. It was a perfect
night to have the fireplace
lit.
The Finance Committee for
the 125th
celebration held a Spaghetti
Supper last week. They also
had a Silent Auction with
businesses providing 26
beautiful baskets to be bid
on. It was a super night
with about $2500 realized
for the celebration. The
baskets went very well and
everyone had such a good
time. Thanks Rosie and your
crew for a job well done.
Speaking of Rosie—she is
headed for Germany once
again. She goes to Germany
like I go to Fargo. I am
just kidding because I am
jealous. Rosie asked me to
go along with her, but I
want to stay home and help
our daughter Kris turn 40
years old! I am working on
Chuck trying to convince him
we should just make
reservations and go over
now! Christkindle Markts
are coming up in Germany and
Austria so this makes it a
wonderful time of the year
to go. I can smell the
roasted chestnuts.
The sod house project was
completed a little over a
week ago. Loretta Monson
said they really had people
volunteer to help----59 in
all offered in one way or
another. What a neat
project this has been and
needless to say it has
really received lots of news
coverage. It even made the
USA Today paper. I think it
would be fun to spend a
night in it, but I am not
getting much encouragement
in that department.
I don’t know about any of
you, but sometimes I get so
sick and tired of cell
phones and people talking on
them wherever they are at
the time. I guess I will
have to re-think this a
little bit. Our phone rang
a few days ago and as I
answered I heard, “I need
help”. “I am on the roof
and the ladder fell down.”
Thank goodness for cell
phones or Chuck would have
probably spent part of the
winter up there as I had no
idea he was atop the house
putting up Christmas lights.
There is a form now on the
website so please print it
out and get your
reservations in for the All
School Reunion and Banquet.
Also, if you plan to have a
float in the parade, please
fill out that form and email
it back to me. We are
looking forward to a
wonderful party.
Everyone is saddened with
the loss of Sherry
Tagestad's mobile home to
fire Sunday night.
This is the 2nd mobile home
she has lost to fire.
Sherry was not home, but she
lost everything except for
the clothes she was wearing.
Sherry will be staying with
her sister, Susie Hanson for
the time being.
Congratulations are in order
for Helen and Harold Sundvor
on their 50th Wedding
Anniversary. They had
such a nice party in their
honor at Trinity on Sunday.
Lots of friends came to wish
them well. I also
congratulate Krista Restad
and Chance Sveen on their
new little daughter, Aubrey
Anne. She is a real
cutie if ever there was one!
There was a baby shower for
Aubrey in Adams Sunday
afternoon with many people
in attendance. I
understand there are some
happy new grandparents in
the area also.
Congratulations to Cathy
Nordquist and Wayne and
Loretta Bernhoft on the
birth of a new baby
grand-daughter named
Madison. Madison is
the daughter of Neil and
Melanie Bernhoft. Our
very best to everyone of
you.
Once again with sadness I
offer our condolences to the
family of Joe Kadlec. Joe
died Saturday night and his
funeral is Thursday in Park
River at St Mary’s. It
seems very quickly my
generation is becoming the
oldest generation. Our love
and prayers go out to Loren,
Ken, Carol, Don and all
their families.
Have a wonderful week and
Mitch, it was great seeing
you and family in Kansas.
