THE CROW’S
NEST-----------November 15,
2007
Uffda----and then again
uffda! The last couple of
days we have been bombarded
by very strong gales of
wind. It is almost eerie to
listen to it howl during the
night time hours. Hopefully
all the fallen leaves are
now long gone from
Edinburg’s city limits and
are well established in
another part of the state.
This past week has been a
“sea of orange” around
town. Deer hunters are out
in full force looking for
that special buck. Chuck,
John Evenson, Jim Otto and
Randy Johansen were over in
Adams last Friday morning
for the annual “Hunter’s
Breakfast” at the Adams
Lutheran Church. Going to
the breakfast has become
quite a tradition. Rosie
served chili at the Fireside
Lounge and said she had a
huge crowd come in to enjoy
the food.
We still are so thankful
that Rose Denault decided to
serve noon meals at the
Fireside. I know I have
mentioned it before, but
Rosie is a terrific cook and
the food is great. She had
ham and mashed potatoes with
ham gravy the other day that
was absolutely “out of this
world”. It was SO good.
Rosie has done such a great
job turning the bar in to a
café like atmosphere during
the noon hour. If you
haven’t tried it, please
come down to the Fireside
Lounge and enjoy a noon
meal. Many local
“Edinburgers” enjoy getting
together and visiting while
having a wonderful meal.
Our trip to Seattle changed
my life. Not really. But,
I have decided to try to
live more “green”!!! I now
take a tote down to Market
on Main when I go shopping.
When I think about it, the
United States is way behind
in the “living green”
department. While living in
Germany 30 years ago, I took
a wicker basket to the
market daily to buy the
foodstuffs that I needed for
that day. They didn’t have
plastic bags. I did notice
in Seattle that a good
percentage of the cars on
the roads were hybrids. I
guess we all can do our
part.
A little on the personal
side: Chuck went down to
First Health Care this
morning for a colonoscopy.
Tonight as we were visiting
he mentioned how great it is
to have such a wonderful
place to go for medical
purposes. He talked about
how caring the staff is and
how each patient is treated
with such respect. Of
course, it helps when the
patient “loves” all the
ladies at First Care----and
Chuck does. The bottom line
is: we are so fortunate to
have this hospital so
close. O yes, Chuck said it
was the best colonoscopy
that he has had! Take note
and have one scheduled.
It is important.
It
also was a sad week for us
as Effie Ulberg died. Yes,
she was 90 years old and had
lived a wonderful life, but
it is still very sad to say
goodby. Marvin and Effie
were such a part of our
lives when we retired back
here in 1992. Of course,
they had been family friends
from forever, but living
across the street from them
made our connection ever
more special. Ron and Sandi
and Diane were here along
with all of their children.
Effie’s funeral was at St
Mary’s in Park River with
burial in Edinburg.
I wish everyone a very
blessed and happy
Thanksgiving. Ruthie, happy
belated birthday to you
yesterday. Your numbers are
“climbing” up there
also---unfortunately not as
fast as mine. Have a great
day and we will visit later.
