 The Crow's Nest

THE CROW’S NEST-------------------June 25,  2008

A SUNDAY SAGA:  Prop your feet up, relax and hopefully promise yourself to read this tale of woe to the very bitter end!  Have you ever gotten yourself in to a predicament and then wondered how dumb was that?  Well, that is exactly what I did last Sunday.  I decided I would move a heavy chest of drawers into my sewing area.  I promised myself I would do this on my own without bothering Chuck for help.  That most definitely was my first bad mistake.  I pushed, pulled and shoved the dresser out of Chuck’s workroom into my sewing area.  I tried to maneuver the chest in to a small space under our basement stairs.  I pulled SO hard on the chest and finally was on my way to a successful move---or so I thought!  All of a sudden the chest was wedged in tightly between my sewing table and a wall---and I was stuck at the wrong end of the chest---under the basement steps!!!  Again I pushed and shoved to try dislodge the chest from the vice-grip it was in.  That was to no avail.  Terrible thoughts started lurking in my brain.  Will I forever be a captive to the stairwell “monster” or will I be rescued somehow?  I started to yell CCHHUUCCKK as loud as I could.  I didn’t know where he was or if he was even home!  I yelled for a few more minutes then decided I should make the best of my situation and catch up on some of my quilting magazines.  That was a fine idea until I realized it was too dark (at my age) to do much reading under the stairwell.  I took up the sport of yelling again.  After 55 minutes I heard footsteps coming from the garage.  I had a magazine rolled up as a megaphone and was yelling my head off as Chuck came in to the room.  I had been a stoic, incarcerated Norwegian until that moment; then I broke down and cried.  Chuck comforted me and quickly pulled the chest out, turned it around (as it had a curved front and fit nicely around my sewing table) and quietly pushed it into place.  I think I learned my lesson.

What a wonderful time we had last Tuesday morning with the 80 or so bicyclists that came through Edinburg.  Our Community Club provided muffins, bars, coffee and lemonade for them at the Community Center.  Many local citizens came downtown to visit with the cyclists as they stopped for refreshments.  The whole morning was very relaxed as the bikers spent time visiting with us.  A few of them checked out the sod house also.  We could not have asked for a more beautiful morning either.  It was one of those mornings where you know “all is right with the world here in Edinburg”.

Brandon is back home again from Minneapolis.  He went down to get walking casts and therapy.  I have been so busy I haven’t been over to get a new picture.  I saw Brandon and his dad, Chuck, go by the other day.  Chuck was giving Brandon a ride in their golf cart.

Talking about golf carts, there are probably 8 or so carts driving the streets of Edinburg.  Suzy Kartes and I almost had a collision at an intersection in town.  Our son Mike and family were here this past week.  My golf cart couldn’t handle all the excitement so Chuck had to bring his gas driven one home from the golf course in Park River.  Many miles were put on the carts.  Rose Adele Sigurdson had grandsons home and they loved chasing our grand-daughter and her cousin that were with us.  We are repeatedly told by visiting family that it is so much fun to come to Edinburg because the things the kids can do here they can not do elsewhere.  I don’t know if we residents realize what a treasure we have in our little small town.  Edinburg indeed is wonderful.

Excitement abounds as we look forward to Andrew Sorbo’s wedding July 12th.   The Edinburg Community Club has planned a “Night in the Park” July 9th with grilled brats and ice cream.  We thought that would be a good time as friends and relatives will be here for Andrew’s wedding.

Two weeks after Andrew and Kayla’s wedding, Katie Monson and Scott Knoblach will be married at Trinity.  It will be great for us to have “family” home for the exciting time.  I wish Christina Monson could come with John, but they are expecting their second baby girl in September so Christina isn’t supposed to fly.  John will have to take lots of pictures.  I am waiting for these fun events.

Have a great day and we’ll visit later.

 GREAT WISDOMS

Always remember you are unique.  Just like everyone else.

If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments!!

A closed mouth gathers no foot.

There are two theories to arguing with women,  Neither one works.

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much when your mouth is moving.
